Deborah (Furr) Scott is asking for help to prevent the Ocala City Council from demolishing another classic building in Ocala. We've lost the Court House downtown, the old Library, the Post Office and a few other historic buildings in Ocala. They've set their sights now on the City Auditorium which was built as a WPA project during the depression.
The organization fighting to save the Auditorium is hoping to find photographs from the 1040's, 1950 and 1960s of events held at the auditorium. They particularly would like photos from the 1940s, our parents generation. Those are rare, because folks then didn't walk around with cameras like they do today.
The City Council plans to demolish the building along with the nearby Senior Center, the Armory, and other buildings in the area to build a Convention Center. The organization fighting to save the Auditorium is hoping to find photographs from the 1040's, 1950 and 1960s of events held at the auditorium. That's the story, Deborah would appreciate everyone looking in their family photo albums and searching for photos of the City Auditorium and sending them to her. She and a lot of other people are emotional about this issue and the careless way the Ocala City Council insists on tearing down all our historical buildings.
