
Ocala - Arthur "Art" G. Harper, 67, of Newport, formerly of New Bern, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Two Rivers Healthcare. Mr. Harger was born December 8, 1942 in Hillsdale, MI to Veda and the late Lloyd Harger. Arthur graduated from Ocala High School in 1962. Art served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired after 21 years of service as a Master Sergeant. Art then worked in civil service at Cherry Point Marine Air Corps Station for over 15 years. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at St. James United Methodist Church, Newport, with the pastor, the Rev. Susan Clayton Lindblade, officiating. Survivors: wife Margaret Lowery Harger of Newport; mother Veda C. Harger of Ocala, FL; son Andrew G. Harger of Conroe, TX; stepdaughter Judy E. Brewer of Newport; grandson Andrew Harger, Jr. of Conroe, TX. In addition to his father, his children, Allen and Alisa Harger, and a stepson, Russell John Bell, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal relief fund of your choice.
