Shangri-La Motel and Restaurant

The Shangri-La Motel and Restaurant was new on U.S. Highways 441, 301 and 27, South of Ocala, when this postcard was made. It received a AAA rating, the seal of excellence. Boasting of 27 units that were modern sound proofed with air conditioning, hot water heat, tiled baths, room phones and a TV in every room. Beautiful landscaping with a swimming pool. Motel with dining room. Every comfort for the traveler. The Shangri-La Motel is still in the same location.
The Shangri-La Restaurant offered such Specials as the: T-Bone Steak with Onion Rings, Salad, Choice of Potatoes and hot roll with butter for $2.50, Broiled Filet Mignon with sides for $2.75, Broiled African Rock Lobster Tail with sides for $2.25, Florida Red Snapper with sides for $2.50 and Jumbo Frog Legs with sides for $2.75.
The A La Carte included Chicken Livers Saute with sides for $1.50, Oyster Stew with sides for .75, French Fried Shrimp with sides for $1.50, Boned Chicken Filet, Breaded Veal Cutlet-Tomatoe Sauce, Fried Scallops, Flounder, Halibut, Bar-B-Que and an A La Carte Salad. The Appetizers consisted of Shrimp or Oyster Cocktail for .50 with choice of Juice or Soup of the Day, Chef’s Salad or Cottage Cheese.
Your choices of vegetables were Broccoli, Peas, Green Beans, Corn, French Fries or a Baked Potato. Restaurant suggestions were: Broiled Danish Lobster Tails and sides for $2.50, Broiled Mackerel-Spanish Sauce and sides for $1.75, Fried Maryland Oysters (In Season) with sides for $1.50, Deviled Crab Rolls and sides for $1.35, Broiled Swordfish and sides for $2.00 and Fried Chicken and sides for $1.35. Diet’s Delight was the Peach Melba Plate for .75.
They offered ”Small Fry” Hamburger Steak with Peas, Ice Cream and Milk for .85 and a “Bantam Fry” Fried Chicken with French Fries, Cole Slaw, Ice Cream and Milk for $1.00 and was for Children only. The Blue Plate Special was the most expensive item on their menu. It was a New York Strip Sirloin Steak with Mushroom Sauce, Salad, Baked Potato and Roll for $3.25
